Now is a good time to get outside and get prepared for the winter months.  A few preventative measures now could save you from getting a big headache later!

Replace batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

Check your chimney for soot and blockages.  If you have a wood-burning fireplace, soot can build up causing increased risk of fire.  Have it inspected and cleaned prior to the season.

Flush your water heater.  Lime scale can build up causing sediment.  That could lower the efficiency of your water heater and raise the cost of heating the water.

Clean lint from your dryer exhaust duct work.  Lint is highly flammable and can build up.  It can also make your dryer work harder to dry your clothes which leads to higher electric bills.  Pull the dryer away from the wall and disconnect the hose at the dryer.

Check and clean your gutters to ensure they are free of debris and are properly secured to the home.  Be sure water flows freely and it is directed away from your homes foundation.

Schedule a furnace tune-up to keep your furnace running efficiently and to help avoid an expensive fix during the winter months!
